Nikon MB-D10 Grip batteries

I have just been pricing up from one well known internet UK store the cost of using a EN-EL4a to go with the above grip. I have the Nikon D300 camera and grip already
Seems I would need 3 items

MH-21 battery charger for single battery @ £127.22 Approx
EN-EL 4A battery @ £100.00 Approx
Nikon BL-3 Battery chamber cover @ £29.35 Approx

Total =£256 57

I was wondering who would pay this amount against the cost of 8x AA rechargable batteries 2800Mh for £10. What would be the advantage?

Any members have any thoughts on it???

At that price I am sticking with the AA rechargable batteries.

TBH I wouldnt pay that amount to get another 2 fps....

The advantage of using the en-el4 over the AA's is that the EN would last considerably longer.....
 
I have the setup you mention but then I have a D3 too which makes it a no brainer given I had the charger and a spare battery already
 
I use AA's there is no point in using anything else if you are a D300 or D700 owner due to the high cost.

Most of the time I have another EN-EL 3A in the grip anyway.

You get the extra fps with AA's anyway.

There's also the benefits of better battery info, faster charging times, etc, but you're as well using another D300 battery in the grip giving you double the capacity unless you really need the extra fps.

I only got the grip for the handling benefits it brings, but as I have a D3 I bought a secnond battery as spare or for the D300.

The real question is why anyone bought a D700, grip, batteries etc when the D3 wasn't that much more. The only advantage was the smaller body of the D700 when the grip was removed. The increased price of the D3s has made the decision less clear cut now though.
 
You can pick up the battery and a charger on ebay for around the £40 mark I am sure you can get the chamber cover as well
 
Not the genuine Nikon parts though for that money... and from what I have seen the fit of the HK parts is less than good too.

And Northern Nikon is kinda right about buying a gripped D700 vs a D3 from a while back... unless you wanted sensor cleaning and a pop up flash (probably as a CLS commander)
 
i thought the same thing when i first got my battery grip, but its not very ofter i need 9fps.

so i stick with good high rechargable batteries.

i spent about 30 quid on a charger including batteries, plus bought 5 x four lots to cover my flash guns aswell.
 
The hong kong chargers (£25 on ebay) and 7dayshop EN-EL4's work great, means you can get sweet, sweet 8fps for more like £50 rather than a few hundred ;)

If you want to go the 'nikon genuine' route, there's always fairly reasonable dual bay en-el4 chargers on ebay new or reconditioned for 100-150ish.

there's chinese BL-3's on ebay for about £12 too iirc...it's a piece of plastic, who cares who made it. You don't get the (obviously immensely useful) small bag for it that nikon include though >_<
 
Same setup - and I use a second NIKON EN battery in mine - they are only £30.00 or so - plus full battery info - and I keep the AA battery box full in the bag as a backup if both my on-board and grip battery get used - thats 2000 shots - 1500 or so using a lens with VR on...........:thumbs:

No need for all that extra power unless you need to FPS and use it often - sports shooting ect

Interesting...I just bought a D3 today (pick it up tomorrow) and looked at the D700 as I already have the MB-D10, but decided against it on the grounds of better batterylife on the D3, faster FPS without adding the grip, dual cf slots, and there not lot in the price differential after you've added a grip to the D700, and a gripped D700 is bigger than the D3...didnt know the D3 battery charged faster....how much faster?

I always thought the 7dayshop EN-EL4 wasn't actually the right battery for the D300/D700/D3? They normally are good at listing what will work and it only says D2X and D2H...

I was referring to the speed of battery itself when compared to charging AA's. Of course you could use a rapid charger for you AA's but then you'll fry them and significanly reduce their life span.
