Hi guys,

Put my grip onto my d90 today and after a few shots the camera died on me.

Inside was an official Nikon battery that came with the D90 and a Duracell one.

The Nikon battery had just had a full charge and it was the duracell that had run out of juice.

Until I took the duracell one out the camera wouldn't switch back on.

Is this normal?

I always thought that if one died the camera/grip would automatically switch to the other battery.

Yep, genuine grip.

Tbh I've never charged the duracell, took it out of the packaging last week and put it straight into the grip.

If one battery dies it shoud automatically switch over to t'other. Out of interest it might be worth trying swapping the batteries around and see if the "dead" one being in the other slot makes any difference. Something is nagging me at the back of my mind about having had something like that before with either the MB-D80 or MB-D200....

Tried swapping them with no success.

Both slots are fine though, the charged battery shows correctly on the battery display in the menus.

Duracell currently on charge, might sort it once it's had it's first charge.

I think I've heard of this before. Have you used the Duracell battery in the camera before? If not, is it specified as a replacement for the en-el3e or just en-el3? The grip needs to see a status signal from the battery or it doesn't know it's there so should have 3 contacts rather than 2.

Hope that helps :)

Just put the fully charged Duracell into the grip and all seems fine.

Both showing on the battery info page in the menus.

Does anyone know which battery is used first, Left slot or Right?

Just hope I dont end up having to remove the dead battery from the grip each time it runs out of juice.

Dan on my grip the righthand battery is used first. If you hit the info button on the back of the camera it shows both batteries on the camera screen so you can keep a check on your battery levels.
