My view was I bought the 105mm f2.8 VR ... more expensive but I thought more useful ........ I quite like it for portraits as well as dragonflies etc.,
but it depends on what type of "macro" shots you want it for ...... for close ups ........ of insects and dragonflies ....... I found my 300mm f4 "better"
