Yes
Just checked with a guy in Jessops today, and he said it's normal for this lens, no need to worry about

I get the faintest 'purr' from mine, like a very smooth ratchet noise...but I have to hold it next to my ear to hear it.

Does it make the noise when you take it off the camera and rotate the focus-ring, or just when it's on the camera?

It might just be the mechanical linkage making noise...

thanks for the answer, man.

It does feel a bit not very smoothly when i take it off the camera and turn the focus ring. But it wouldn't have any sound at all, i guess it's because I'm not turning it fast enough :bang:

Sounds about right to me...that's just the AF-mechanism clunking away...
Mine's the older version, so it does sound a little smoother than yours...

really? it does sound quite weird and annoying to me :(
Does it happen when you move your camera down like that with every AF-D lens, or just the 35mm f/2D? I'm confusing now :(

Ahh got it - the third time I heard the 'scrunch' when it was pointed down...

No, mine doesn't do that...

...maybe get it serviced and see what happens then - shouldn't cost more than £50 from a Nikon-Authorised repairer...

The thing is I don't want to get it repaired unless keep using it does harm and is dangerous to the lens or the camera...
Just got it from ebay, and I don't think spending £50 more would be very sensible for it... :bang:

(btw it stops at the 3rd times bcz I stop pressing, it doesn't affect the focusing at all..)

In that case just keep using it...it's unlikely to harm the camera...
