Nikon: non-nikon non-cpu lens metering question

No
I sometimes use my contax mirror lens and bellows close-up set on my Nikon D40.

As these lens have no cpu or anything and the camera has no simple TTL meter I have to take a shot - look at it on the LCD and adjust shutter speed etc accordingly - which is not ideal.

I will be replacing the D40 soon (probably to a D7000) and I was wondering if any other Nikon cameras have a TTL meter which would work with an entirely non-cpu, non coupled lens.

Also would the live view feature be of use here - I am not sure exactly how this works - if I am on a manual mode does the "live" picture alter to show exposure adjustments ??

Thanks for any assistance.

You'll need one of the three digit bodies D200-D700. The D7000 is the first body below that level (for some time) to include meter support for non-cpu lenses.
