No
I was at the Cardiff v Preston match yesterday and was speaking to a snapper from up north (local paper in Preston). He was talking about some deal that Nikon are offering to buy your Canon gear off you for good prices. Has anyone had any experience of this and who do you contact at Nikon?

I've heard of this mentioned a couple of times on hear. From what I remember it only applied to press photographers...my memory may be playing tricks. Call Nikon and see what they have to say about it.

A guy at my place, who had more money than sense, went out and bought the latest 1D at the time (think it was a II), some quality L glass and loads of other Canon bits and wanted to trade in through Jacobs. Jacobs wasn't prepared to give him what he wanted but they phoned Nikon, and Nikon basically gave him a free D3 plus lenses just to take the Canon gear out of the loop. Okay, we were talking about eight grand's worth of gear in total, but his Canon gear was about 2-3 years old so he got a very good deal.

Think Arkady knows something of Nikon's pledge to help pros get into the Nikon system....

I think Rovers_Andy on here recently enquired, but they had stopped it? Possibly due to the current economic climate?

They certainly did a similar thing at the Bejing Olympics, which was why it was nigh-on impossible to get ahold of stuff like the 70-200 VR at the time, as it was all getting shipped over to China....

I suppose its a good advertising/marketing plan as we all look to what the pros are using but its a bit out on Canon...

It has been done...at the last agency I worked for the boss did so and chose to sell some stuff to Nikon and some privately as their prices were a bit iffy in places...KIPAX bought his 400L for a steal!

They are still doing it (at least it was in September) but unfortunately it's very much to do with who you work for and how much kit you've got...Kieran, I'd expect that you'd be able to do it, since all the other guys at your place use Nikon dont they? Plus, you're probably of a decent enough size to get a concession!

As has been said, not sure who best to contact though. If I could get a decent enough deal for all my kit i'd be tempted!

A friend of mine did it, media tog, but Nikon were only taking L series lenses and 1D series bodies. At the time they were offering top 2nd hand dealer prices for his kit. He still had to fork out about £4000 difference and didn't get everything he wanted but he was dazzled by 24.5 mpixels with the D3x, although he did get rid of the D3 he had

It is true they are still doing it but they have had a major budget cut for it and the deals now aren't as good as they were 6 months ago, I had a quote from Nikon earlier in the year, but in the end I decided to stay with Canon.

If Nikon want to know what makes Canon so good, why dont they just ask people?
