Nikon on a budget...

...the only brand I have not tried and would like to, but on a budget that would allow me a D1, D50, D40 etc....

any older affordable models that stand out from the others? I am not too certain of all the models without motor..

The D50/70/70s are all a fairly safe bet, as they use the common/cheap EN-EL3 batteries and have the af motor built-in.

The D40/40x/60 use a different battery and don't have an af motor.
