Nikon on Canon

Does anyone know if a nikon flashgun will work in manual on a Canon body?

I was at a studio workshop and the guy who was running it gave me his Nikon flash gun to mount on my canon 5d to trigger the studio heads, I don't know what the flash gun was set to but it flashed every time I pressed the shutter

As long as you tape over the TTL contacts it should be ok, I've certainly used my SB900 on a TTL cable with the TTL wires cut fired from my Panasonic GF-1 without any issues.
