Any thoughts have Nikon D300 with all kit flash 100 500 sigma sigma wide angle etc I have been lokking at Cannon 550D is it worth changing all to go to Cannon any thoughs welcome

If you can afford to and want to why not.
However will it make you a better photographer if you swap?

What are your reasons for doing this?

Firstly, it is CANON, not a cannon as a weapon.

550D is an entry level consumer body (yuk :gag:)

D300 (not 3000 which is just as bad) is a great semi pro gear.

Sigma lenses may cost slightly less but may also do somewhat less and leave a bad taste in ones mouth.

daugirdas' opinion of entry level kit - and now Sigma lenses - never fail to make me genuinely laugh.

He does have a point, are you completely mad for wanting to downgrade to a 550d? If I'm not mistaken folks in this forum compare a D300 to a 7d (two classes ahead of a 550D). I have a 450D just now and as far as I know the only real benefit that the 500D and 550D offer is video - which can be had on higher class models anyway.

Stay with what you have, or if you want a Canon, get one that is at least level with the D300, not a colossal drop!

I would stick with the make your used to, I've always had Canon and would never change, not because I think they're better than Nikon, just that I've always used Canon.

The D3 is an unbelievable FF camera, for its AF and its outstanding ISO control. The D300S on the other hand has the most poor ISO control I have ever had the misfortune to witness - worse than the 400D (Canon) and the AF is so so. I'm not overly impressed with its constant hunting even with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens whereas the Canon 1D Mk iiN was amazing and my D3 even more so. I've heard great things about the 7D and used it briefly hence Crop = Canon, FF = Nikon. To say that the D300S at ISO 400 is pathetic is an understatement. I'm only keeping it for the reach.

Eh.... Have you tried more than one D300s?? Sounds like you have a faulty one. I have used the D300 which does not display a fault like you say and I doubt they have added it when making the D300s.......

You could well be right though reviews of the D300S seem to indicate that the D300S isn't the hottest when it comes to ISO which seems to align to my experience with the device. I'll have a gander though as it may be a dodgy unit that I have.

Hmmmmm do you think its worth changing?

As said above 550D would be somewhat of a Downgrade from the D300
If you have a D300 with a decent (assumed) set of lenses and kit then what benefit is there of changing to Canon?

My D200 is fine up to maybe 640-800, my wife's D300 is ok much higher than that and my D700 is simply ridiculous. Might be worth doing a direct test against someone elses.
