Nikon or sigma 70-200mm f2.8

Used to have the Sigma; well made, solid feel and very good materials. Bargain at under £500 a few years ago. Had to have it re-calibrated at Sigma for a back-focussing issue. Was fine after that, although I then bought a Nikon 80-200mm AF-D, which was a bit better optically, but no by much. Now I use a 70-200mm VR1, which is brilliant - absolutely pin-sharp and with AF to die for. Optically the 80-200 is as good but the AF speed and the VR function won me over.

To be fair, I got cover shots with all three and they looked bang-on, but I do feel I get 100 per cent what i want when I use the VR1 because the AF is so precise, even on my aging D2x, and the VR function helps me out in those instances when I have hit the ISO ceiling on my camera.
