I noticed this- it doesn't say by how much though so they may have reduced it from being completely unacceptable to unacceptable:lol:

Given that Canon have no problem with FPS and RAW (or even just FPS) I'm not sure why Nikon seem to struggle so much:shrug:

I await some reviews with the firmware applied but think I'll end up with a G11/2
 
I loaded the firmware yesterday and my first impression was that it was able to acheive focus in low light far more reliably than it used to. Tried it out today and af seems loads better and the whole camera feels slicker.
I emailed Nikon a few days ago about my bad af, they replied saying they had no serious AF issues but then admitted that there was an issue with AF (:thinking:)
Whatever, they gave me a link to the new firmware a few hours before it was released generally, saying the that would address the AF failures as well as other stuff. The constant lens initialisation seems to have stopped too, thank goodness.
Regarding the G11 /12, my first thought was to go for the G12 when it came out, but it still doesnt have the zoom range that the Nikon has, so I went for the Nikon.....
After a couple months of frustration (and another camera) it seems ( so far) that it works as it should.

The minimum focus distance seems to have improved too at wide angle (not macro). As you say, it seems much quicker overall.
 
Worries me, Nikon releasing a camera before its ready . . . ? I'm considering the D7000 . . . but reading the reviews, there seems to be issues to which, no one is putting their 'hand up' and admitting they have a problem. Is that pride . . . or are the issues not there as reported by reviewers?

Not like Nikon? they usually get it right, then tweak a little 'to taste'? . . . :lol:

Not like Nikon? they usually get it right, then tweak a little 'to taste'? . . . :lol:

this is common as its helps find any problems.
