Nikon pre-order what shop?

After inheriting some money and after having tried it out at Focus I am very very tempted to place a pre-order for a Nikon D4. :thumbs:

As prices seem to be the same everywhere what shop would you go with?

I have used Kerso on here for all my previous high end gear so I don't know what other shops are the best ones to use. Obvious one that is likely to get stock soon and one that offers good customer service are important.

Anyone recommend anywhere?
 
I haven't seen what others are doing, or even whether Jessops are still offering it, but they were offering a free battery and the new XCD (or whatever it's called) high speed memory card (16gb) with a pre-order.

It depends on how quickly you want one....

Nikon Pro Dealers will get the most units while there is high demand and low supply. All the time we are in that situation the headline price is going to stay at £4700 - with just freebies of batteries and cards as sweeteners (albeit expensive sweeteners). You need to be looking at people like some of the London Camera Exchange sites, Park Cameras, Jacobs, Grays of Westminster, Calumet etc. However, Jessops are NOT on that list.

Unless you are NPS (or had worked for an agency like PA) and are able to get your purchase registered for priority allocation then I doubt you'd get one in the first batch which should be here sometime between the 15th and 22nd March. I'm NPS, have a priority allocation, and have one of the first two coming into a Nikon Pro dealer and so I'm likely to have mine within the next 2 weeks.

Then you'll have all of the current pre-order list which I suspect will take out the next batch.

So my recommendation would be to go for a Nikon Pro dealer, and maybe ring around to find out the depth of their pre-order list. It could easily be June or July if not after the Olympics before your order is filled - especially given that many people who touched one at Focus will have placed their orders already this week...
 
I'm an NPS member and ended up ordering with Jessops. My own fault because I didn't preorder when I got the email. I wanted to read up on the D4 and absorb what the benefits would be.

Jessops as a group had something like 90 allocated and only 48 orders for them. So a good chance of getting one early. Nikon have given Jessops a definite date of the 15th for a delivery date.

That is good to know.

I'm sure that some of the initial D4 pre-orders were cancelled when the D800 was announced but I'm still stunned that they have so many allocated and so few pre-orders.

I was told that the month delay (from Feb 15th) was solely to fulfill the NPS and agency pre-orders - but it seems like there is more availability than expected...
 
If delivery wasn't until the summer or later than I would probably not order one at all at this stage. I have the possibility to shoot for a mountain bike race series (not really into mountain biking though) that runs until sometime in June or early July. If I can't do that then I can't really justify the outlay for the D4 at this stage.

I am not a NPS member. I was a CPS Gold member at Canon until I decided to move away from Canon DSLRs.
 
Well it sounds like it might be worth a call to one of the Nikon specialist Jessops shops to see what the actual situation is.
