What is the Nikon equivalent to the Canon 1D MK1V

I'm a Canon user so please forgive my ignorance of all things Nikon ;)

It's the D3s. Even though your Canon has a crop sensor v Full Frame.
Nikon don't have a crop 1.3 sensor.

Ah! okay and thanks  Are there 3 models then.... D3, D3X and D3S?

no, only two current ones - the d3s superseded the d3 and the d3x is the 24mb version

Thanks Hugh .... So it's the D3S then as I would suspect the D3x is closer to the 1Ds

Thanks again, it's a bit clearer now

Yup, D3 came first, the s added more iso and fps and the x doubled the resolution of the original D3 but lacked the iso and fps performance.
I think the idea is, D3 for press, D3s for sports, D3x for landscape, fashion etc.

Yes there are 3 (4 if you count the D700).

Quick description of FX line-up:

  • D3 - fast, low-light pro body.
  • D700 - same sensor and same IQ as D3 but body not quite so pro (hence cheaper than a D3).
  • D3s - very fast low-light pro body (different sensor & more expensive than a D3).
  • D3x - very high resolution pro body (twice the MP but slower & more expensive than all the others).
Hth. :)
