Evening,
About 4 weeks ago we had a radiator leek in the house, no idea how long it was going but it was a good couple of days while away. It soaked a bed, the carpet and my camera bag. Now the Nikkor 70-300 was slightly damp and I hoped was OK but the D60 and Kit lens were soaked (along with most of the bag obviously). Initially after drying the camera didn't work so we added to the insurance claim but a few days before the company turned up to collect it, it came back to life, huzzah! Rang the insurance and they still said to send it in and they would have it and the lenses serviced, fair enough.
Fast forward four weeks and the insurance company rang up today, Nikon have written off all three items so I can have new for old replacement and was offered a D3100+Kit and a new 70-300 VR Nikkor. So as I was planning on changing to a D90 later this year I cheekily asked it I could pay to upgrade and they said yes
So I now have a D7000 Body and 70-300 Lens arriving on Monday....result ! All for an investment of £450.
First time I've ever had to claim on the house insurance and I was expecting it to be a pain in the rear, but apart from some house disruption due to carpets being laid and having to take a few days of work for work to be done, its been a dream.
Anyhow, sorry was the wall of text I'm just please I have new shiny toys winging there way to me and needed to share, though I suspect I'll be paying more house insurance next year
