Hi guys just want to ask if the sb-27 flash will work on a D3000,
Im looking at getting a flashgun for portraits etc

Thanks
Gareth

It will work, but only in non-TTL auto mode (where the flash decides when the scene is sufficiently illuminated, rather than the camera through the lens). Additionally although the SB-27 has a zoom head, you'll have to manually input what focal length your lens is at, in addition to aperture/ISO.

Don't think that having it non-TTL is going to be bad - I get excellent results with my SB-25 with this.

I've just seen the post in the Classifieds that you are interested in - the answer is so much more complex than 'yes it will' that I'm almost flabbergasted. At best I would say that it would at best be a compromise to use it, but certainly it would not be anything like how it was designed to operate with the cameras of the day, or how you would expect a modern flash to work with your D3000.

would i get just as good results in just using the onboard flash

The SB-27 would be a bit more powerful.

Why not go for one of the youngnuo cheapy flashes or you can get the Jessops 360 flash for peanuts.

would i get all the modes and wireless triggering using my camreas flash to set of the flash if its set off camrea
