Nikon SB600 not working

Hello,

Looking for a bit of advice, or to see if anyone has had the same problem

My Nikon SB 600 has decided it doesnt want to work anymore... Once the batteries are in, it does not turn on. You have to put a lot of pressure on the battery compartment lid, and hold it there, then it turns on.

Any ideas what it could be? or is the flash just knackered? Ive had it for a few years now

Its a bit of a pain at the moment, seeing as im trying off camera flash stuff

I'm not an expert on these, but I would be looking at the connections on the lid itself and also in the body of the flash to see if they have either settled over time or even if they are broken.

It seems to write off a flash because of connection problems!

You may have a small crack in the plastic of the lid, which when closed allows the contacts inside not to touch one of the batteries.

Once you apply pressure to it, all is well.

I'd take a very close look at the battery lid - bearing in mind you may not see the crack (if there is one there) right away.

Other option is that one of the contacts inside the compartment is too low, might just need bending up a touch.
 
Can't help you per se....but my Sb-600 needed new contacts (battery leak) an also a new sensor on the side of the unit. Fixation sorted it with a week and it cost £75.

Fixation did the repair but anyway sounds like you have it sorted!

Another good thing for cleaning contacts is a fibreglass pencil which you can get from Maplins.
