Hi,

I am looking to buy a Nikon D800 from eBay and I'm trying to confirm with seller the first three digits of camera so I can confirm country from.

I have looked at a few sites and have conflicting information.

One site said that UK starts with 6 and another start with 8, can anyone shed any light on this and do they have a link to an official Nikon article that will help?

Problem is I've found multiple sites confirming both.

Thanks in advance.

Fair do's, I'll see what they say and post as it would be good to clarify :-)

My D200 & D300 which were marked UK started with 8.
My D800 which is marked Europe starts with 6.
My D700 which was China/Hong Kong stats with 2.

There's a very good chance that the chap at Nikon DOES know so didn't need to double check.

Well there's no harm in asking to double check, as I've found when some engineers have, they have been able to tell me by asking a co-worker, etc

Original "intended" for sale location for Nikon cameras is designated by a code on the box, UK and Europe have the designated code (EPs) for Japan and the far east it's (J)

The code os printed on the box just above the barcode.

Thanks that's useful to know

Hi,

Mine is UK stock and begins with 6.

The warranty paperwork will clearly state whether its UK stock as well.

I'm wondering how important it is though... how cheap is it? Have you priced one up from Panamoz? It's grey import stuff, but they warranty it for 2 years, and give an even bigger discount with bank transfer.... equalling £1450 brand new.

It's £1,600. But trying to work it out whether I buy brand new from UK for £2k, just heard people always say avoid imports. Do you know if there is a post that explains pro/cons properly? Cheers

£1377 from Panamoz if you use BT, safe as houses, no one ever lost their money but some have lost their minds over the stupid squabbling which is always initiated by a tiny bunch of do gooders and usually ends up with constructive and informative threads being locked out.

You should also be aware that the Nikon product identification went tits up for a while after the earthquake and floods destroyed some manufacturing facilities, units were being shipped into the UK from other intended destinations to ease the shortfall issues.

Quick question, the whole warranty, the 2 years you buy it Panamoz takes care and then after that do you take it to a UK Nikon repair shop and they will fix for you or do they turn you away because you have an imported camera? Thanks

ive had a repair under warranty from Panamoz although they usually just send a brand new one out instead, anyway, i sent it to their Brighton address and they sent it for repair, it came back within 10 days direct from a Nikon authorised repair centre along with the Nikon job sheet, Panamoz paid for the repair direct.

Better still !

Why would anyone pay £2000?? Panamoz warranty it themselves for 2 years. If it arrives faulty, they're a UK company subject to our laws, so they have to replace it. I'm failing to see why a Nikon Warranty is worth £600 extra!! No matter what went wrong with it, it would cost less than that to just send it to Nikon and actually pay for the repair in all likelihood. I'm really struggling to see what could go wrong.

Thanks all for advice! I've took the plunge and ordered from Panamoz!!! Ekkkk watch the parcel!
