Hi guys and gals, wonder if you can help me? I want to get my D300 checked out/serviced because I'am not convinced that it's auto focus is working correctly, it's either that or my sigma 70-200 2.8 is not focusing correctly (I want that checked as well) so if anyone can point me in the right direction for both I would be really gratefully. Thanks for you help.

Does it focus Ok with other lenses. I would check with several lenses. If it focuses with other lenses then it's the 70-200. Also if you are seeing issues at 2.8 then it may be user error or back front focus issues.

I use one of these to check focus

I put the camera on a tripod with remote shutter release to stop camera shake, and put the above on another tripod.

Next place tripods apart at average shooting distance and both lens and target same height and take the shot.

Not only will it show if the camera is out of focus but also show if back/front focusing. The picture actually shows slight front focusing before I corrected everything.

Some say this can be done with a ruler on a table and a camera looking down at an angle, but this won't give a true reading so my advise is don't try it.
