Nikon settings question

To all you Nikon bird and wildlife toggers out there, can you please advise on what a4: (Focus tracking with lock on) setting to use. The Off setting seems natural for fast moving birds but am I correct or have I missed something?

If set at OFF the camera will refocus when there is a sudden change in camera to subject distance.
I'd leave it off for wildlife.
The only risk with that is if something momentarily passes between camera and subject since refocus will occur (although will again refocus on the subject when an uninterrupted view is available).

There are no magic settings... you need to understand how it works and adjust on the day based on what you are shooting.

Its about the D700, but its exactly the same for the D300.
