Has anyone used either of these on a Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 G ED VR II if so which one is better.

1.4x I never have liked the 1.7x better off with the newer 2x mk 111
 
I use the 2x mkII,which is fine for what I need,between 1.7 or the 1.4 it depends on what extra reach you need :)
 
I've had all 3. The new 2 x being th ebest. But out of the two that you have asked about, the 1.4 works great on the 70-200mm vrII. Better than the 1.7.

I'm not saying that because I have a mint 1.4 for sale in the Nikon section either. ;)

Thanks for the reply. So would I be better off getting the 2 x ?
 
It depends. It's a lot more expensive and bigger/heavier. The 1.4 is very capable. I found that the 1.7 affected image quality. Not so with the 1.4.
