nikon tc14E problem

Bought one a while back second hand. For some reason when i put it on the camera and put a lens on, the screen goes dark? its on F22 and locked on

Any thoughts?
 
Does it do the same if you attach the TC to the len's 1st then attaching them to the camera... Does it do it with all lenses or just the one :shrug:
 
yeah all lenses, the aperture ring opens and closes manually, but when you lock it at f22 it stays dark ( not pitch black) and you cant lock it at f2.8 it says EE
 
Tried cleaning the contacts :shrug: just that have read (in the past) with some problems similar to the ones with the TC but with lenses it sometimes helps...
 
Sounds like the camera isn't changing the aperture for you.

Is it Auto?

You can change to manual mode? Might get you past the EE...

The 50mm I have does that if the f# isn't locked on the smallest. But the camera controls the aperture then. If its not locked I just get the error meassage.
