Can anyone tell me the difference between a nikon tc 14 mark 2 and the current mark 3?
Reason is that I want one for my 70-200 f/4. The mark will fit. Just not sure about the mark 2, which I have a chance to buy.
Thanks

Got a bit mixed up, I think, Robert.
There is no Nikon 1.4 mark 3 TC.

The 1.4 and 1.7 have mark 2 versions.
The 2.0 t/c has a mark 3 version

The latest versions of each model produce better image quality than earlier ones of the same model- by and large.

I did get a bit confused with the mark 2 and 3 versions
Ok, so the mark 2 is the current version. Great thanks.

Time to find the credit card.

Where are you buying from Robert? I'm after one myself, can't find one anywhere. Some sites say 'awaiting stock' or whatever, no sign at all on amazon for the 1.4x.

At £315 new, I was going to wait for that rainy day.
But, bored this morning looked at WEX's second hand selection. They had one for £159 in 9/10 condition. Its a mark2.
Stupid here thought there was a mark 3 in the 1.4. But there is not.

Bought my D700 from them, so know what their 9/10 means ( near mint) and that by phoning up , that the "sales" staff do not have access to the equipment. i.e no point 'phoning them up!

Anyway, before you get on the WEX site, I bought it!

I had previously called Nikon to confirm that my 70-200 F/4 will take a 1.4TC. And it does. It will take all three mark 1 and mark 2 TC. But, I may get focus issues with anything more than F5.6 and the D700, so want the 1.4

Have you tried Grays for a new one ? Bound to have one

Dang, I'd have snapped that up if you hadn't ;)

I'll have a peep on Gray's, cheers.

[edit] Just checked on Gray's and they have one listed, doesn't say whether it's MK 1 or II, but they're the same thing tbh. They have it for £145. Just emailed them expressing interest and to inquire about postage costs to Ireland. If all is well and the postage isn't too steep, I'll take it.

Yes, Keith, any differences are cosmetic. I originally thought the 1.4 II had some optical changes, but it hasn't. Seem to be difficult to source just now. Even the two commonly used HK suppliers have none.
