Nikon v Canon 'Cross-Type' Sensors

Okay so most Nikon cameras utilizing the 51-point AF System have the centre 15 points as 'Cross-Type', i.e. they are sensitive to both horizontal and vertical movement ... on some Canon cameras the entire, up to 65-point, AF System are 'Cross-Type', though it appears that this will vary with the lens used.

As a Nikon user, should I be jealous, or in reality isn't as simple as it appears?
In Canon, what is it about the lens that makes the difference in the number of 'Cross-Type' AF points available?
 
with canon i think it's to do with the minimum aperture of the lens that determine how many cross type points are available
as far as being jealous i wouldn't be it took quite a while for canon to produce a decent reliable AF system that works properly
nikons been there for a while

somebody is sure to come along and tell you the technicalities of both systems it would be interesting to see what the differences are in the real world and not on paper

Lol both companies have made perfectly good af systems for 20 years!

i think some early 1d mk3 owners might disagree with you :)

joking aside i use and always have used canon in the DSLR world and havn't really had a problem with any canon body as far as AF is concerned but in my opinion until quite recently ( last 3 years ) nikons AF system as always been ahead as far as multi point AF etc was concerned but like i said how that compares in real world use would be interesting
