I changed from shooting film to digital only recently, so I've probably got a lot of stupid questions to ask! I've recently changed my 'standard' lens on my D7000 from the 18 - 105mm to the 18 - 200mm, and both have the 'VR' shown in gold figures rather than red; I understand that this denotes VR2, second-generation VR, whereas the red logo denotes the first generation.
VR2 has been around for a couple of years now; even so, the new 80 - 400mm lens that I'm contemplating buying has the VR shown in red. If VR2 is an improvement on VR, why haven't Nikon incorporated it across the entire range? Or am I missing something obvious here?
