Nikon v's sigma 24-70 f2.8

What's better??

I'm looking a buying one but the sigma is cheaper.....

Is the nikon one much better?

It's for weddings on fx nikon...,

I'd always heard the Sigma wasn't great, the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC is a much better equivalent to the Nikon at a cheaper price

I have that lens the Nikon version and for me it is a great lens but not done a comparison with Sigma. The only thing I would say is I prefer to stay with a lens and camera from the same company

If you not aware, the new 24-70mm VR is on its way, seems expensive to me, but it may bring down the price of the original.

The focus speed of the Nikon version is simply phenomenal. I dare say that the third part equivalents would be slower. The Tamron does have VC which could be handy?

The Tamron AF is good, probably not quite as quick as my Nikon glass but I think it's more down to the VR than anything.

I'm comparing their 17-50 vc against the Nikon 17-55. Nikons AF is excellent but the 24-70 is on a completely different level to the Nikon primes and cheaper zooms. It is instantaneous and kinda takes you by surprise. I believe some reviews and tests puts the Tamron ahead of the Nik with regards to sharpness. The thing is, you're looking at second hand Nikon vs a brand new (grey) Tamron for similar prices. Some would rather have a shiny new lens than a second hand used one.

I did have the Tamron to start with the VC one,the VC had some odd habits when engaged,but still a very good lens,but in the end did go for an s/h Nikon one,which i used up till the whole Nikon setup was just to much to carry for me

.... says somebody who has clearly never used any of Canon's pro lenses.


But yes, in terms of focus speed the camera manufacturers' lenses will generally outperform third party lenses.

Indeed i have not, but i don't see how they could be quicker? Is their 24-70 mk2 faster then?

Focus on the Nikon is ultra fast , I had the sigma 28-70 before , image quality is not noticeable , but of the two I like the nikon

I do have the Tamron 28-75 which works very well.

The sigma is rubbish it's very soft wide open.

Get the Tamron vc and keep fingers crossed for no copy issues or get the Nikon.

Really? I never had any problems with a Tamron 24-70 VC in poor weather
