Fine picture, Jeff.
Got lots of shots of skylarks on terra firma feeding or food hunting , but in flight shots have eluded me ., this is one shot from a circa 30 shot burstFine picture, Jeff.
Never seen one of those before.
Almost as colourful as the African Bee Eaters that I never managed to get a sharp image in flight image of, when I lived in Spain. They fly around at high speed and seldom settle, but occasionally will rest on a telephone line.
I have the 100-400 and have used it a lot - with and without the 1.4TC. I use it primarily for dragonflies (in flight and perched)/butterflies etc- on Z9 and now Z8. I like it a lot. Main reason I would take it out instead of the 600pf is its close focus ability. If you are going to use it with TC at the long end all the time and don’t need closer focus - or zoom - think about the 600pf?? (more £s though!)OK, just back from a week on Mull and finding the 180-600mm quite heavy so I need an alternative and just asking anyone who uses the Nikon Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S thoughts on this lens, yes there are many on YouTube from people who get paid from viewings so really looking for real world users, also any better options to go along side the 400mm f/4.5, not wanting a prime as like the zoom option for one lens, also have the 1.4 adapter. Thank you, Russ.
It’s always a good idea to try before you buy. Everyone’s different. Personally, I was not fond of it - though it performed as intended. As you’re heading off to Africa, this article I wrote for Nikon Rumors a while ago may be of interest, as it was during my Kenya visit that I tried the Z6 III.Does anyone shoot with a Z8 and a Z6iii? I have a Z8 (prev had Z9 before the Z8 came out - but opted for the lighter Z8 as getting old and only 5’ ) and love it. Going on a trip to Africa later this year and was going to rent a second body but have decided to buy one second hand.
Do the 2 complement each other well? I am starting to shoot a lot more video but obviously couldn’t use one for vid and one for stills as it would depend what lens was on the camera at the time? Any major pros or cons I should think about? Thanks
Thank you for replying….. especially as I now realise who you are …. your images are awesome. I love the images that you are able to ‘see’ and capture. Maybe you’ll see me on one of your trips one day - not this year, mind - going back to Zim where I grew up and using the opportunity to go back to Hwange after 30yrs.It’s always a good idea to try before you buy. You've had it 10Minutes+ and not taken an image. After 2 weeks in transit due to the wrong post code being added by the supplier, my z8 has finally arrived. Battery on charge.
Sadly both my batteries and the one that came in the camera are all flatYou've had it 10Minutes+ and not taken an image.![]()

That’s terrible especially as you’re their number one customer. After 2 weeks in transit due to the wrong post code being added by the supplier, my z8 has finally arrived. Battery on charge.
Shocking isn’t it?That’s terrible especially as you’re their number one customer.
I hope that you really get to love the z8! x (Unless of course the ‘best customer’ comment means that you already have 4 at home and this is a spare for the spare )Having a beer on the garden and spotted this. Sigma 150mm macro on the z8. Transferred to the phone via SnapBridge. No cats to test the camera on sadly.
