I will always comment on how I see a photo, and I hope people do the same towards me. Otherwise we never learn.

I think the OP is (very badly) quoting a train of thought that wad posted on the web, and not saying it himself. He's asking the question in reply to what he found in the web....

"very badly" how does copy and paste make it bad, i just commented on a post my friend sent me and asked a few people on here how they felt about the statement made by that person. the original statement was made by me to ask people what they thought of his statement. i have no worries about my photography or the comments made on it. i know how good i am

Do you want your ego massaged? Are you putting images on social networks just for the ego boost? Or...are they put up for critique? Is it a business? I can't see your point.
If you post something on the web then you are signing a contract for everybody in this world to read, view, or listen to your stuff, how up yourself must you be to say "please don't hit the like button" what about the people who genuinely like something and feel like they don't understand something enough to comment, hit the button.
That's like someone sending a comment like "compliments to the chef" into my kitchen during service and me sending one back "i know my food is good, don't blow smoke up my arse" No, what i say is thank you or i am glad you enjoyed. The customer doesn't know what went into their meal most of the time, but they enjoyed it enough to hit the like button.
Basically, if it annoys you or bugs you that much don't post things on forums, Facebook, flickr.
i refer the learned gentleman to post 21

Ok guess i missed that but the rest of my comment still stands, be gracious and not an arse about your work being well received. But, If you feel someone is clicking for the sake of it and just being "nice" then you already know your work ain't up to scratch, so why post it on the web. I did read that it was being used for "clients"? To view images before getting prints?

misquote ..... i don,t have any clients i drive a truck for a living. the photos i show other people are from studio nights at my camera club, who as a favour for modelling for us usually get a choice of a print or two free of charge.
i wish i had clients :suspect:

I was defending you.... :bang:

By 'very badly' I meant that the quotation wasn't very clear - it was just copy and pasted, instead of being put into quotation marks and/or a different font to make it clear that those weren't your words but those of someone else who you were referring to.

I won't bother next time.....

sorry dude my bad :bonk:

Good thread - got me thinking.

Here's my take on it, but this just me.

I am my own severest critic. I devour quality images and aspire to match them.

Most of the time I know if I've got close or not.

But, my lack of knowledge and experience causes me to miss things that others can spot. I welcome that.

People saying it's great when I know it's not are responded to with polite thanks, but ignored.

On the other hand, you have armchair experts who criticise for the sake of it.

The ones that particularly wind me up are the ones who say, "clone this out, clean that up etc," as if they're looking for some idea of perfection that sucks the life out of the image.

They are responded to with polite thanks and ignored.

I post some rubbish on flickr, I know that. I don't post crap on here. If you don't like it, or see problems with it, tell me.

If you think it's really good, and there aren't many of them, please tell me why you think so.

Finally, this for me is a hobby, a pleasure, a way to spend time in a constructive way. It's for the enjoyment of the challenge and for enjoyment for the sake of it.

I'm not going to take myself too seriously, and I won't take anyone else too seriously unless they have something positive to contribute.

Phew! :)

Only people who like a photo click the like button, how many would click a dislike button?

i thought like/dislike was only on utube, so on Facebook etc theres no choice.your hardly going to make a bad comment about a photo on a friends Facebook page, i have loads of friends who put up absolutely crap pics on Facebook and all there friends say "oh thats gorgeous" but it is,nt they are just being nice.
