Noise from Canon 70-200mm F4 IS

Does this sound like normal IS operation ?.

Mine certainly does not make that amount of noise. Does the IS work O.K?

Martin thanks, it seems to,only had it since yesterday.Whats the best method to check it ?.Ive messaged the seller but no response as yet.Not bought from here though.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, if you put your ear close to it.

The kind of sound is absolutely normal, whether or not it's louder than normal is something we can't know from that audio link. Does it work? I suspect there is nothing wrong.

Mine has noisy IS too very similar to yours, don't notice it when outside though, my guess would be that its fine

Mine is also noisy but comparing against a recording is impossible ... too many variables.

Take two shots handheld same aperture at slowish shutter speed, one with IS on and the other without. Should be a pretty noticeable difference as in without IS more blurred

Hold the camera to your eye with the lens at 200mm and notice how much the image steadies when you half press the shutter? The effects of is should be obvious especially if you don't try to hard to be perfectly still

As Alex said above, or if you really want to exaggerate it, switch to live view at max magnification.
