I am new to the forum having just purchased a EOS 500D. I have had a
few digital point and shoots and used to have a film SLR before the
digital age.

Digital SLR is now a learning curve particularly shooting in RAW which
this query is about.
I know that when shooting RAW no processing is applied to the
outputted CR2 file.

My question is does this also apply to the high ISO and long exposure noise
settings as well?
Do I need to change these settings when shooting RAW or do they only
apply to JPEG.

Any help would be greatly received and hopefully in the future I can
return the favour.

Hi Derek.
I use a 20D, and apart from low light indoor (no flash) have never suffered from noise.
Most photography is on Av with as big a apperture as possible (low f No) with ISO 100-800 (occasional 1600) dependant on conditions.
On the tripod Tv with a small apperture (f11 upwards) and a long(dependant on conditions) shutter speed. ISO's the same.
Try ISO 200 and then see what you need to do in PS and adjust from there.
Andy.
