The visitors this afternoon were in a co-operative mood and the robin stayed long enough to try different settings. This is at iso 100 - From RAW - auto curves and lightened in levels - sharpened and sized for web

This at iso 800 same treatment but Neatimage added. Both at +1 stop exposure.

I am sure the over exposure does help with the noise as usually 800 asa would be out of the question.

Old dogs do keep learning new tricks! Having exif data make life so much easier!

I like the first one the best but 2 doesnt look noisy to me at all, although there is a bit of fringing around its tail feathers in the first, great shot for 800iso though

Told you so ;)
.

Thanks! Had the chance with the chaffinch and robin to run a series of exposures with varying iso and exposure settings and over exposing by .3 to 1 stop makes a lot of difference especially as with these there are no real highlights to worry about.

Looking with interest at the 40D or possibly a 30D if the prices drop on this.

It's amazing how much difference over-exposure makes to noise - I never knew about that! Nice shots btw - but are they quite heavily cropped?

crop is about 60-70% of the full width
