Nokia N97 Firmware Upgrade

The long awaited big firmware upgrade is finally available for the N97....Version 20.0.019. I got mine a few days ago - it adds full kinetic scrolling, frees up memory and other useful tweaks. The phone is much snappier now - more like the phone it should have been at launch.

Nokia are rolling the update out to end users in stages. I dunno how they work it, but it seems that you don't get it until you get e-mail notification that there's a new software updater. Once you've dowloaded and installed that you can get the firmware update.
 
good find, updated my N97 yesterday.

did you have problems with the phone saying not enough memory on phone C: delete some files andf try again.

Anyways it's working now

Hmm just got one two days ago, and cant say i am impressed by it, bloody thing has crashed so many times, and now i cant get it to accept any music, wont sync with pc. Shall be going back to the shop tomorrow i think.
 
Just though i'd update my last post. Had my handset changed on Monday, first thing i done was to get the update's for it there where 5 in total, the firmware, Ovi contacts, Maps, and a couple of others lesser important ones.

So far no complants no hanging, lightning fast in selecting screens, the screen is very accurate, all other issues i had are non-existant on this hand set. Very happy now, feels just as good as my mate I-phone 3gs. Hopefully my last one was just a poor copy.

In telephone dialling mode type... *#0000# which will tell you the firmeware version number.

There have been 2 or 3 firmware updates since launch but the last one was the biggest, and shows the most improvement. The problem is you get the updates as and when Nokia roll them out to your group of users and not before, so you have to be patient.

I'm happy with the N97 now, but there's no doubt it was launched onto the market long before it was ready

I have both the n95 8gb with v 31.0.015 and n97 with v 20.0.019

to check your firmware all you need to do is dial *#0000# if you havent got the latest version then connect your phone to your computer using usb and run nokia software updater... Make sure you back up your phone first.
 
Did mine about 3 weeks ago. As CT says, a big improvement. Although the new mail client was so slow, I've deleted it and gone back to the old one...
 
Has anyone mnanged to get full 'push' email working on the N97? It's supposed to be possible? Jan has a Blackberry and she takes the **** every time I manually retrieve emails. :D

The only real niggle now is that the N97 just will not maintain a GPS satellite lock in the car either with Nokia Maps or Google Maps - although it's fine on foot. No biggy really as I use Tomtom in the car, but I never had the problem with the N95 8 gig.
