Non-OEM Nikon en-el4a battery stuff?

Yes
Anyone know if anyone makes a third party en-el4a battery? Not the en-el4, it needs to be the en-el4A, which is the one for the D300 8fps support.

Also, how about the charger? Anyone found a non-Nikon charger for the en-el4a?

Worth an ask because the battery, charger and stupid plastic flap I need to turbo charge my forthcoming D300 is the best part of 300 quid... which is just a little excessive.

I am guessing the price is what it is because of the intelligence in the battery and charger, but this is worth an ask :D

Cheers!

Andy

Why not use the AA option. 8x2700mah rechargable batteries + charger comes in around £50 from play.com. This is the option that I favour, as it's far cheaper (although charging costs are probably slightly more, and you will get less shots than with the Nikon battery, it's a hell of a lot cheaper!

I'll try and do a frame count over the weekend with the AA option, for comparison :)

Well, I certainly will try the AA's :D

I'm also interested in the idea of 3000+ shots from a single battery... which would be enough for me to confidently go out for a weekend long event and not worry about battery life....

But please, do tell me about AA performance, would be interested to read.

I use AA in my grip on the D300.

Just didn't want to spend £100 plus on the 4A charger.

Hi try ... duracell.co.uk they are pretty good and a lot cheaper. we got our EN-EL4 battery from there and their fast delivery. hope this helps
p.s. not sure if they do the charger but its worth to ask them

They appear to sell only duracell batteries not specific specialist camera batteries.

I got the en-el4a, charger and door second hand. not cheap, but a lot better than it could have been. I hardly ever use the 8fps, but the overall charge is amazing. I could probably shoot sports for a good week without even having to consider charging. I really haven't taken many pictures at all since the start of summer, but I have been using the same charge all summer.:D

You need to be careful with non-oem batteries in the D300/700 - none of my EN-EL3es work in it, but they work fine in the D200..

I've noticed that with the AAs (2700mAh) in the D300 I am not getting a whole lot of shots now that they are also running the VR on the 70-200. If I get a day and about 4-500 shots I'd be doing well, whereas before I was getting nearer 800-1000 shots with the 80-200.

Having said that it's under £8 for a set of rechargeable AAs as against the £300 for the EL4 option

Please prod them into telling you soon :D

It's no-one I know. I just contacted a recent buyer from his feedback and mailed them.

As soon as I get a reply I'll update.

My first reaction is definitely "it can't be as good", but then again I've been using cheapo 7 day shop batteries in my 30D since I had it and they definitely aren't any worse than the genuine Canon ones that cost a fraggin' fortune.

So maybe this isn't impossible to achieve...

But I'd sooner hear if it has blown someone else's D300 up than mine :D

OK so you're prepared to buy a cheap Chinese knock off and use it in your imported camera with no warranty due to it being an import...

Sorry but :wacky:

I happen to know a bit about batteries due to work and I doubt you'll get the 3000 shots you think you'll get from a cheapo, and that's before it expands and bursts it's way out of your nice new grip.

Looking through Play.com's 2700mah rechargeable batteries... are the Uniross/Encore ones up to scratch? Sony is out of stock :(

Hi
I bought a (cheap replica) battery for my D80 about 18 month ago and I couldn't tell you which is which now. So in my opinion they're all made in the same place but given different names ( which I do KNOW happens) so I would say go for the cheaper option almost everytime.

Cheers Paul

They're not all made in the same place... Seriously we've had so much trouble with these things at work.

Yeah, I am actually.

Just as I did with my current camera as I explained before.

Someone last night had a bet with me on how long it would be before someone said almost your very words... looks like I am down the cost of a drink now :help:

Fair enough, it's your choice.

Unfortunately I can't post the pictures of the damage cheap batteries did to our radios, or the findings of the chemical analysis that took place on a sample, but suffice to say I will never buy an unbranded battery again.

I used unbranded batteries in my old D70 but that cost me significantly less than my D300. I have been tempted to buy a 3rd party en-el4 but have resisted. I've spent far too much on this camera (and it's my only camera) to risk it. I'm sure it'd be fine but I'm not willing to take that risk. I'll stick with a handful of AAs for the time being. Getting 3000 shots out of a single battery isn't that important to me.

I'll bet you that in 6 months everyone is using these....

Right, another question of a similar ilk, D200 batteries, are they compatible with D300? And if so, what sort of usage are you gettting? Just wondering as collecting a D300 on way to Ireland next week and want to know if 3 fully charged D200 batteries will last me the day until we book into hotel where I can charge the new D300 battery overnight, and whether I need to source some D300 batteries Before I go.

The EN-EL3E work in both the D200 and D300.

I have 3 for my D300, 1 in camera, 1 in grip plus a spare.

I've never had to put the 3rd one in yet. Will shortly add a 4th as I like double redundancy.

Plus the grip comes with a further holder for AA batteries giving you the faster fps if you need it.

Some people though have had problems with non oem batteries that work in the 200 but not the 300.

:bonk: HAd NO internet since I posted this yearday just before leaving work! Got home to find the exchange we run through had an outage.

Anyway, thanks psi, I think to be on the safe side I will get at least 1 genuine D300 battery this week then, just in case the non OEM ones I have won't work. I shouldn't need any rapid fps on the friday, that will be saturday, so one battery should do the day. (y)
