none canon lenses

a friend of mine has a quantity of sigma/tamron lenses, he's unsure if they are suitable for digital cameras, would i damage my spanky new 40d trying them ? is there any way to tell if they are digital friendly ?

Shouldn't be a problem testing lenses

If he could tell you what they are..ie. focal range and aperture, DG etc. etc and you could re-post, I'm sure we can advise

If they are Canon EF fit then they will all attach to the camera.Older lenses will probably not sustain autofocus and some may not recognise the electronics full stop.Its a case of trial and error--------but hey you might get a pleasant surprise--just dont bank on it !
