Is this camera worth getting? I have never used an slr before and the bodies seem to go for around £100 on eBay? Sorry for the nooby question, just don't want to waste money.

Hi Ben

Yes if that's your budget, then the 300D is a good buy. It's getting on a bit now compared to the new bodies, but still a very good camera and a great body to learn from.

I've still got my 300D (at the moment) and my daughter uses it and we still get great results with it.
 
It's not my budget but I'm looking to spend as little as possible inches I find out that photography is not my forte. What lens should I get for it as a beginner interested in Motorsport, still images of my own car and general holiday snaps? And where would you suggest getting them from?

I took this a few years ago with a 300D before upgrading. I still have it as my backup to the 7D. For the current prices it's a snip, in my opinion.

P&p puts it up to about £140. How much is a basic zoom lens and anything else I'd need?

Wow nice picture! Think I want something I tiny bit clearer. Though might have to spend a little extra. Thanks for all the advice guys and please keep it coming!!
 
Check out mifsuds, camtech, park camera's, ffordes, Mpb photographic they are all good rep 2nd hand dealers of camera equipment, so at least you'll get an idea of how much to pay give or take their mark up.

Personally I would go for the 350D (about £30 more (£130)), better camera for only a little extra $$$, as for lenses, well, depending on what you buy, you could get the body and 18-55mm lens as a package or separately for about (£40-70). As for a motorsports lens, well depends how series you are about a budget, but there are some cheap options out there, but probably similar cost to the body used like a sigma or tamron 70-300mm (£120), at least it will give you a foot in the door so to speak.

You should be able to get both the 300D and a zoom lens, 18-55mm, for £140 and not just the camera.

In addition to the above you will need a memory card (300D uses CF cards). Another £10 should cover it.
 
I've got a few memory cards around from various things. What lens should I be looking for? 18-55? I think I'll,probably go for the 350d and see if I can find one with a lens

£30-70? Will I need it right away? Will be going skiing so will be practising there with it and am having my car resprayed and fitting some modifications to it so again this Reilly be my main outlet for practice.
 
the 18-55 can probably be picked up for £50ish second hand.

Motorsport, you will want something with a bit more reach. Im pretty sure I have seen the tamron 70-300 advertised at around £70 second hand in several places.
 
18-55mm is a general walkaround lens, basically landscape through to portraits or your stationary car shots, but its not really a action (sports) lens because it has a limited focal length and not very fast. As for a sports lens, depends how close to the action you can get, but something like a 70-300mm would be ideal for rallying, just understand the camera and lens limitations when it comes to camera settings and light conditions, especially for rally shots.

Basically, you'll need a camera body, walkaround lens (18-55) and sports lens (70-300mm) to start you off.
 
Perfect thanks off the help. Can someone point me in the right direction....I'm looking for the guide on what all the millimetre measurings mean and an explanation on light exposure etc

The canon 55-250mm is another budget entry lens similar to the 70-300mm offerings and if the conditions are right, you'll get some good images.
 
Wow I've learnt so much already although I know I haven't even scratched the surface. I suppose the rest it just playing around and finding what I'm good at etc...
