Hello,

Bit of a lurker, first time poster and new to the world of photography so apologies if this is a bit of a daft question.

I've just picked up a Rebel XTi with an 18-55mm kit lens which has a 58mm filter size, and I'm looking to buy a 50mm 1.8 as my first foray in to the world of lenses. Reading about it seems it's a 52mm filter thread, is this the case or do Canon standardise on their filter sizes?

Also, any recommendations from the community as to where to purchase from? Amazon isn't too bad at £83, but was wondering if there was anywhere cheaper.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andy,

Cheers for the welcome, thanks for clearing that up and thanks for the link.

The filter screw on the nifty fifty is 52mm and will require a smaller filter than the 18-55. However, you can get a step up ring (52mm to 58mm) and you will be able to use the same (58mm) filters on both lenses. Thats the cheapest way of doing it!

I'm just in the process of ordering a 50mm + 52mm UV filter from Kerso, email response within 10 minutes so I'm seriously impressed!

Seriously? Kerso is that fast?! whats the procedure to purchase from Kerso? Do i just send money to his account or do I email first about it?

I emailed Kerso last night about a large order, received a reply on it all within a few hours. Very quick. Just give him an email :)

Can't complain at that kind of service on a Saturday afternoon at all. :)
