Morning,

A while ago, due to being a ham-fisted goon, I managed to thread the tightening mechanism within my battery grip and it's now stuck to the camera. A common problem with Canon grips apparently due to the cheap, plastic gears used in the tightening wheel.

I've tried a few solutions suggested from forum members and things I've found on the net but it's not budging. Trouble is I'm ditching the battery grips for weddings as the grips, coupled with flashes are just too heavy.

Does anyone know of anywhere in the North East area that can fix this sort of thing on site?

Ps the camera/grip are well out of warranty.

Not sure if they can help but there is a small independent camera shop in Sunderland, Charles Eagle, they might do repairs.
 
I don't know where you are in the North East but there is a repair place in old Eldon sq. Newcastle, he does good work and I've found him to be well priced.

Yeah I know the place you mean - I've used him a few times for sensor cleaning. Didn't know he did repairs too, I'll give him a bell tomorrow.

Only thing that puts me off is all those stairs!!! :)
 
Put the front cap on it and stick it in the fridge overnight, then try it in the morning
 
He does digital repairs as well and I would guess he will have seen this problem before.
 
I had this happen to my 5DII and battery grip. I ended up having to break it off but in a way you can jam a small flathead in where the wheel is and unscrewing off the grip.

I ended up getting a new grip as I couldn't get new parts for it. It's easy to do and there were a few guides online if I remember.
