Hi all,

I'm off on a short trip to Lapland next week, and will hopefully get to see (and photograph) some light displays. I find shooting the snow a bit tricky generally, so would appreciate any tips suggestions for both snow/ice and the aurora. I'm planning to use a Nikon D90 with a 10-24mm cranked up to 1600 ISO. Any suggestions about speeds/f-stops/exposure settings would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

PS - Oh yes, and my trusty Manfrotto...

Are you staying at Saariselka? If so I can offer some advice on where to go and what not to pay out for. Shooting the lights really depends on the conditions. So it's impossible to say what will work. Wide aperture, high'ish ISO and if you don't want star movement keep it below 15 seconds with that lens. 10 seconds or less would be better. I would definitely not go higher than ISO 1600 on a D90.

No, at a place called Nellim. I was thinking of upto 20 sec exposure if I'm at 10-12mm?
