Not volcanic ash but sand

Lot in the news today about the volcanic ash cloud floating over.
Thought you guys might like to see these, its not ash but sand from the Sahara desert blowing across the Atlantic onto The Canary Isles. These sandstorms are reasonably common here and are known localy as a Calima.
Very fine sand, well dust really which coats everything in a 'talc' like layer.
Gotta treat camera gear accordingly;)

Blimey, I bet that reeks havok. I don't use a UV filter preferring to use a hood but I think I might be tempted to with that happening. How often does it happen and do you get any warning?
 
WOW they are superb shots!!! Glad i got back from Tenerife before they closed all the airports!

Darren, yes there is a warning on local TV when these calimas are due, they usually last about 3 days during which time the temperature soars, traps the heat in I suppose.
