O2 Answerphone (sucks)

Whilst on holiday last week, I was out of reception for about 30 minutes friday lunchtime. O2 then took 12 hours to send me a text message to let me know I had a message on my answerphone.

By comparison, if I'd still been on Orange (who suck horribly in every other respect...) I'd have had a little icon on my phone as soon as got service again - which they managed to do right back when I first got a mobile in 1994, unlike O2/Voda's bizarre voicemail system, which still hasn't got that idea nearly 2 decades later...

Why is this significant? The 12 hour delay meant a job went to someone else, costing me a boat load of money (basically an order of magniture bigger than the contract with O2...)

The irony is, I moved to O2 because it gave better coverage than Orange, to try reduce the amount of work I was losing as a result of being uncontactable. Even though I have an expensive business contract, I still haven't got a decent Quality of Service. Does such a thing exist in mobile phones? Doubt it...

I know this is basically a rant, and I can't do ---- all about it, I'd love to send an invoice for lost work but I don't even have to look at my contract to know I won't have a leg to stand on for disclaimers - but O2 Business will be getting a serious earfull when they open tomorrow! (incidentally O2, my business doesn't shut for weekends or evenings, why does yours...).

Much more of this I'll have to get an agent on a landline instead - argh, how quaint!

Only recently I've noticed my Blackberry on O2 has started using the voicemail icon, not that I get a lot of voicemail. Ironically, I'm planning to leave for Orange when my contract ends in a couple of months as O2 are the only network that provide no 3G in the area.

Biggest mistake I made was leaving O2 for Orange last year, I'll be going straight back to them next summer when my contract is up.

I'm with Orange and have been since the started operations, I really don't get problems ... that having been said, are you sure that it's not an option that you haven't setup properly on your service.

Most of the guys I know that work 'on the hoof' and need to be in contact at all times have two mobiles on different networks. If it's that important it may be an avenue for you to consider.

I can highly recommend O2 customer service, I've always found them great to deal with - unfortunately I live right between Edinburgh and Newcastle, literally right on the A1 and 3G is non-existent. 15 minutes inland, in the middle of the countryside there seems to be EDGE coverage, go figure!

Just to return to this thread... I wasted an hour of my life talking to a variety of O2 "advisers" and got nowhere, even with Disconnections which usually gets results... eventually gave up when the people in the UK had a teflon shoulder moment and pushed me onto a "technical" person in India on a line you could barely hear anything on.

If they had actually done or said anything useful about why their answerphone system is so primative and what can be done about it, then I might take them up on the offer of an upgrade (...and having my contract extended :nono:...) but they didn't.

A bit of research on the internet threw up a load of information, its a lot to do with power-saving features in smartphones connecting and disconnecting continously, which causes base-stations to get overloaded, with calls and messages getting lost as a result...

Same here. One of my favourite Orange quirks: I get a text message telling me someone tried to contact me. I get the message within seconds of the attempted call. Thanks Orange, thats great service, good to know that someones trying to get hold of me. Except I've got full signal. So why didnt my phone just ring!? Useless!
