Iam a PAYG customer and been meaning to setup the BTOpenzone for a while now. Each time I come across an Openzone hotspot, I try to sign up but there doesnt seem to be an option for it, only an option to sign in.

Can anyone advise me how I create an account?

From what I understand there are two types of hotspot called "Openzone", on is proper BT Openzone ones, the other are connections that are people's home networks being shared, you need a BT account for these, but they have the same SSID, which is really annoying!

Most of the time my iphone on contract doesn't log onto the free wifi, it even has issues with the cloud hotspots too of late.

When ive been to MD's I can log into the cloud hotspots fine

I've a a iPhone on 02, but can access BTOpenzone as I have BT Broadband. You log on using your Internet log on. To be honest it can be a real pain and the connection so slow, I tend to use the normal iPhone wireless connection.

Best place so far I've found is MacDonalds. They don't seem to mind you buying a coffee and spending 15-20 min wiring images to a client from my laptop. Free on any network

This is what I always get on login...

Can you select O2 from the service provider drop down?

I seem to remember the general rule of thumb being that you can connect through your O2 contract on a red Openzone page, but not a blue one.

Iam sure I tried that, but as iam not in an Openzone area I cant test it :(

I think I just need to phone O2 and get them to reset the mac address
