Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what a good off camera flash cord would be to get?

I have a Canon 500D and Speedlite 430 EXII and have a wedding coming up which I'd like to use an off camera flash for some of the shots I'm planning.

The standard seems to be 1.2 meters but is that enough, or would it be a good bet to get a longer cord?

Thanks very much in advance!

Like you'd already said about the shorter cables they are a great length to be able to put the flash close to the camera to the side or above, or also onto a straight flash bracket.

But FITP (Flash In The Pan) a user on here does also sell 10metre cables, I think they're around £40 but for a wedding that could be just a little too much.

Also have a search on here for extending a TTL Cord as a member on here has used an ethernet cable along with some RJ45 Jacks to extend his TTL Cord, so it can be extended very long with a long ethernet cable or very short with a short ethernet cable.

So the posibilities are endless :)

Hope that helps
Jamie

Thanks for that reply Jamie :)

I had no idea you could make your own in that way, certainly something worth baring in mind although I think right now an off-the-shelf one would be fine for me, just not sure on which one to get or how to make that decision (good/bad makes or models to go for etc)?

I bought one from FITP, was a great price, think £18, but was purchased along with other items, so I saved on the P+P. which is £4.50 for any size order. So definately worth ordering more in one go.

But the quality of the device is fantastic, couldn't of asked for more really, only one small problem I faced was the flashgun end of the TTL cord, (on the top you attach the flashgun, on the bottom is a hotshoe, so you can attach to a stand/ bracket) But there is no lock on the bottom so it is prone to sliding off a bracket, but the hotshoe seems lightly thicker than a standard one and is rigid and firm even without the lock.

But can't recommend any other than TP's finest :) Great customer service and always willing to help out.

I think 10 meters would simply be too long and would end up getting in the way for me, I'm not sure but that's just the feeling I get. I think 1.2m is too short (all the reviews of the coiled wire say that it simply isn't long enough).

I saw this one which has a 3m cable, anyone heard of that make or have that same cord?
