Hi, i have just decided to get to know how to use a flash , i have been looking at at the nissin di866 , i would like to use the flash of camera and set it wireless so when i set it up the flash it syncs with my set shutter speed and fires ,can the nissin do this on my 50d , sorry for being vauge but i was hoping less info in this case may make sense to someone who knows. Thanks

I managed to do that with the Di866 and 7D, as far as I know it still uses ETTL when it's wireless.

I don't know if there's a wireless transmitter in the 50d. There is in the 7d and 5dII.
If not you'll need some wireless triggers, which are better in the long term anyway. Canons ir wireless system is really only useful indoors over short distances. The pocket wizard flex system is good but expensive.

Thanks for the help, i have done some googling and if i am correct , the 50d and the cannon 530ex11 can do it ,not certain but i will try and find out more when i have more time tonight .

The 50D alone can't fire a remote flash in E-TTL mode. You'll need a 580EX I or II or an ST-E2 (or clone) in the hotshoe as a master to use remote E-TTL. You can set up the Nissin as an optical slave but it will be manual.

Thanks , i have seen a set up were you put a wireless transmitter on the camera hotshoe and a separate flash of camera ,i think you sync the camera shutter speed to the external flash manual speed. That could be a way round it but not sure what i am actually searching for any help would be apreciated.

Yongnuo Rf 602 or 603 radio triggers will fire the flash off camera. You need to set the flash power manually to give you the correct exposure.

If you want to know more about using OCF with Canon cameras get yourself a copy of The Speedliters handbook by Syl Arena.

I reviewed it when I got my copy http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=300530

It's available on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speedliters...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1326229739&sr=1-1

This.

Get yourself some RF602's they are cheap and they work. Trust me.

Just remember spare batteries :D

I've done it with my 7D and Nissin Di866 and it came through ETTL, I've also set it as a remote flash from my 5D2 with my 580EX II attached, and with the 7D I've set both the Di866 and the 580EX II to fire remotely with the on camera flash as master. I can't remember all the settings for them all now so I'm hoping I've left them in the flash settings, lol.

I'd personally get hold of another flash too, endless fun with the canon wireless ettl system to be had.

I also have a 10mtr ettl cord which lets me have the master flash anywhere I want and still have control of slave speedlites.
