Off Camera Flash

I am quite new to photography but would like to learn a little about off camera flash. I am using a Canon 500D and was wondering if people had any recommendations for a relatively cheap flash to play around with. Thanks in advance!
 
Depends what you mean by "relatively cheap"? You can't really beat the Yongnuo speedlites for price/performance.
 
Under £100 would be nice. Would consider paying more if it was really beneficial. I have heard people talk about the Yongnuo flashes, and I have heard good and bad. Are they reliable?
 
I've not had mine long, but so far so good and it's more powerful than my Canon 430EX and for £55 new I really can't complain!
