Off camera flashes

I want to use some off camera flashes in my automotive photography. Is there, and if so, what are, the advantages of using for example a portaflash or bowens portable lighting kit, as apposed to using a couple of speedlites on tripods?

Thanks, James.

As far as i know the benefits of speedlights are the price and their portability. Continuous lighting kits will be more powerful (useful when trying to overpower the sun), but more expensive and less portable. You might find continuous light more useful when trying to set up the lighting scheme, personally i sometimes find it difficult to work out exactly what the light will look like from a speedlight, but it's all just practice!

Main advantage is power. To drive big softboxes etc, and to over-power the sun. And fast recycling.

I dont think its reasoning I can particularly justify at this time! Thanks guys.
