As above, I'm off to the Isle of Arran later today with a friend! Does anyone have any experience of this place; are there any must-see sights; are there any must-take photos?

I'm taking an LX3 with me, a mini tripod, plenty of memory and batteries.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

well i lived there for about 8 years when i was younger, long before i took up photography.
so i couldnt tell you any great photo opportunitys, but if your into land scape photography, you wont be dissapointed, the island is a very beautiful place.
i take it you will be going via brodick, not lochranza.

if your theres for a while make sure you travel around the hole island it doesnt take long, the castle at lochranza should offer some nice photos aslong as the weathers good.
dont be afraid to go off the track aswell,so long as you know roughly where your going,

also make sure you have some midgey repellent, there will be thousands of the wee buggers this time off year.

hope you enjoy the trip, ive not been back in nearly 10 years, but need to at some point.

As per previous the castle at Lochranza can be very striking, Glen Sannox has some great landscape opportunities, the stone circle at Machrie (I think) with a thunderous sky is very atmospheric. Corrie is a very pretty little village if that's your thing. There are nearly always seals basking on the coast or just offshore if your zoom will reach.

peter sdays...

there is NOTHING know to man that while repel the wee flees.....:shake:

except maybe......................

Avon Skin so Soft.....use it all the time whilst trout fishing ....

Smidge is pretty good. I used it on Arran a few weeks ago, and it was much better than anything else I tried. Although I've heard the aforementioned Avon stuff is really good.

The sunset is often nice, if the weather is on your side.

Castle at Lochranza.

I didn't get much chance to do any proper exploration, as I was on a meet with the car club I'm in. It's a lovely place though. Have fun.
