Folks,

Off to Edinborough in a couple of weeks...

Any suggestions of places to shoot?

I can probably find the castle of course, but anything else worth a look, interesting and different being good...

Thanks in advance..

Tons! My advice would just be to take your time and wander around there is so much to see. Also take a trip up Arthur's Seat if you are feeling reasonably fit, great views. A sunset shot of the Forth Rail Bridge is also a must.

Oh and it is Edinburgh ;)

Drop in for a cuppa with Ed Gary?

Arthur's Seat is a good idea. If you get a good day you can see something like 30 miles in any direction. You'll get the Bridges, the city, the Firth of Forth and Fife, the Pentlands and all sorts from up there on a nice day.

The castle from the Grassmarket is a nice view and the Grassmarket itself is cool for shots and the Royal Mile too. All are close together.

What kind of stuff you looking for? There's a lot to see in our capital! :)

I though so, so I googled it to be sure and it comes up with all sorts of spellings LOL... and me being a total southerner had no idea....

Wandering slowly is totally on the cards...will probably just bring my walkabout 15-85, I guess that should cover most situations?

Who ?

Why not let people know when you are in Edinburgh and then maybe we could organise a TP meet up on one of the days you are there

I will be up there with my other 1/2.. she would get bored of all the photography :( shame, would have been a great idea to meet up :-)

Next trip though

Let her loose on Princess Street while you do the togging LOL

Actually she now tells me I can be free the 26th of March if anybody fancies a meet ?

(You can tell who wears the trousers huh..)

Probably late morning 11:00 ish

Should I pop something in Meets ?

EdinburghGary. A TP member. Joined here after buying a camera and some lenses and not knowing what to do with them. After going through various stages of development he opened a portrait studio called Inspire, which now has 2 (with more on the cards) studio.

All through his togging "career" Gary has posted on here what he is up to, asked for advice etc, which has made for really interesting reading. When he had time (doesn't have much now, understandably) he would also spend a long time looking through others posts and giving good criticism.

Since opening his studio, he doesn't have the time to spend long on here. But he did find time to become a Dad, and plan 3 more studios around Scotland.....he runs on adrenaline rather than sleep.

He a nice chap and has a "TP Fools Wall" so if any members drop in he normally takes some silly photo's of them to post up on here fo a laugh.

His website is http://www.inspirephoto.co.uk/

But do a search for some of his posts.

Yup, pop something in the meets section

Have made a note of the date

I will probably tag along. You need to post in meets, and suggest 10:00 being a better time.

My home town although I haven't lived there for almost 23 years.

Views from Calton Hill are great (Princess Street, north to the Forth, and south to Salisbury Crags). Princess Street and Princess Street Gardens (looking up to the castle and the back of the Royal Mile). Walk from the castle all the way to the bottom of the Royal Mile to Holyrood House and the Scottish Paliament Building (plenty of pubs on the RM if you need a refreshment!). This is all central Edinburgh but there is plenty more there and elsewhere.

Lots to see and photograph there - The views from Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat, the Old Town is very photogenic, lots of imposing old buildings. Then there are the various closes (alleys to you folks down south :) ) Advocates Close, Fleshmarket Close etc. Greyfriars Kirk has the grave of Greyfriars Bobby.

If you are into detective fiction you can always have a pint in The Oxford Bar in Young Street, made famous by Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus novels.

One of these bus tours might be easier on the legs and you can hop on and off whenever you like http://www.city-discovery.com/edinburgh/tour.php?id=1343

Hope you have a great time up here.
