Im planning a huge round the world trip taking in NZ,OZ and Asia.

I expect to see some amazing things whilst im away so although its abit risky taking my SLR i will regret it if im not able to get that truly spectacular photo.

I currently have an Canon 450D + 18-55mm Lens.

Ideally i would love to buy a decent lens which will give me the a high quality photo from a much better range. Bearing in mind space is an issue i cant be too big.

Ideally for under £400 .

Ive seen this Tamron 18-270mm which seems to fit the bill perfectly?

I also fancy taking a tripod so i will need to be again something which takes up minimal space. The gorilla ones ive seen look fairly good?

For anyone who has done a similiar thing is there anything else i should consider? Camera Bag that locks? etc

I bought the Sigma 18 to 250 mm for travelling and I have a lightweight but sturdy tripod, I don't do backpacking though!

I think you should take the DSLR or as you say you may regret it and I hope you get some amazing shots...

I have the Tamron 18-270mm lens as a walkabout on my 50d. Its a nice lens not as sharp as a prime of course.
But it does me, and you as well I expect if you accept its downfalls of being a bit slow on the focusing (dont use fast continuous shooting) and not much cop in low light being so slow.

However its great that you have 18mm which is reasonable enough for landscape and a nice zoom on one lens. If I was going on a wonderfull trip like that then mine would definiately be coming with me.

If this i any help

Would have helped if I had said what part of the pic the zoom is on. Along the row of trees are 3 flags. The one on the right is the area of the zoom pic.

Yea blimey thats really good!

When you mention primes? sorry but im not that clued up on Len`s so can someone explain briefly.

I just want to take one lens really, something that will give me a lovely photo from different so please all fire away with suggestions. The Tamron just was one ive looked at as it appears to have a huge range but if there is a better quality lens with a smaller range i will def take a look :)
