Oh dear, dear dear

Just thought I'd add to this thread seeing as Ian bought the tokina lens off me last week! I can definitely confirm that there is nothing wrong with the focus/sharpness of the lens. Some of the most recent shots on my Flickr page were taken with it and its always been an excellent lens even wide open. Obviously with most uwa lenses, your best landscape shots will be stopped down to f11-f16 as there's a lot of image to get in focus at 12mm and f4!

Looking at the photos you have put up now I'm on my home PC, there is DEFINITELY something badly wrong with one, or maybe two of the lenses. One (as per the one squishy highlighted) actually looks as if one of the elements has been knocked out of alignment!
 
There is something definitely wrong beyond just focus issues with that tokina shot.
Especially considering the previous owner says it was sharp.

Was it posted or collected? Perhaps it got a knock in the post.

That definitely looks like a lens fault.

All those lenses are highly regarded, they shouldn't look like that even wide open.

A sensor problem won't present itself like that but there is certainly, without doubt some sort of equipment fault.
 
There is something really wrong with most of your Canon shots. I suspect huge focus error. Watch the focus scale. For these shots they should all be at infinity (yours could be 0.5-1m if I am right). I force them manually over there to make sure they don't miss-focus. WAs are best used manually. BTW my Tokina 12-24mm is just as sharp as 70-200mm, and probably beats 24-70mm so they can't be all bad.

I would just pick one camera brand and stick with it. There is nothing totally wrong with either, but d7000 is later gen with better sensor and much better af. The price difference probably reflects it well.
