Oily blades

In the last week my pics started overexposing. Properly overexposing, like 1/8000 f/22 in the shade overexposing.

Quick bit of investigation and analysis has identified oily/ sticking aperture blades on my lens of choice - Nikon 35mm f/2 AF D.

So this is a two part thread really - first of all, why would it suddenly start sticking having never stuck or appeared oily in the past?

Secondly, viable fix or replace and move on?

Only thing I can think of is my gear spending much of last weekend in the boot of my car at an event. Could things have got too hot? Nothing else seems affected.

Heat is the likely culprit..... obviously it will lower the viscosity of the oil and allow it to get everywhere.

No - it's a very common fault with early models of this lens. Nikon 'fixed' it later on.
Mine did the exact same thing.
Take it to your local camera shop and get it cleaned for about £50. Good as new.

I've had mine for about 15 years now and the oily-iris manifested itself after about two years of ownership (and after having been put away for about a year). I only got round to getting it done about two months ago.
I was going to just bin it until I saw the second-hand prices of the damn things...lol

The same thing happened to my Canonete, you could see the stuff on the blades.

I've read about this problem on the lens, really just curious why it would suddenly appear on a 15yo lens that's not demonstrated the issue previously - that's where the query over heat is applicable as a trigger rather than cause.
