No
so I really need some advice!!!

I was asked to do a christening for my boyfriends colleague which I covered on Sunday.

We did not agree a price to start with as I have never done a christening before and as my boyfriend works closely with this man.

Now the pics have been taken I am wondering what to charge.

I took a number of portrait pics of the baby at the beginning of the day, then with mum and dad before we left.

I then took a number of randoms before the service began as well as the family shots at the altar after the service.

At the party I then took lots of pictures of the lots and lots of kids there including natural and posed.

Also including the usual cake, buffett and snaps from each table and group shots.

In all I got about 700 pics, 550 which are good quality. I was there from 9.30am until 5pm. Taking photos pretty much the majority of the time.

I have started to edit the pics on photoshop creating some unusual pics.

Now as I am really really new to this how much do you all think is acceptable to charge?

The pictures in my opinion are of high standard.

They have still not decided what they want to do print wise but I have said I will give them a disk as well as any prints they want (which I will order online) now should I charge extra on top of print prices???

Please help I am really stuck???

To be honest I am really easy about the situation as it was my first and i really enjoyed it.
However now they have been taken they are asking me how much I want.
I dont want to give them away as I feel I worked hard but in the same sense I dont want to rip them off.
I just need a ballpark idea???

HELPPPPP :D

I did a wedding for a best friend of my wife - they just wanted "snapshots" of the day not a full professional. I didn't want paying (was invited to the full day of the wedding), I thought it a privalage to be asked, but they were over the moon with the results and bought myself and my wife a very nice present as a thank you.

As this was for a close freind of your boyfriend, you could possibly charge per print, if your ordering on line, you could add a small amount to each one

Seeing as its your first try at something like this, say you just want a bottle of wine or something as payment :D

If they are happy with their shots, they will blab to all and sundry who took the pics for them, and you might get some more business from it :)

That'll teach me to go make a brew in between replying :bonk:

If they have asked how much you want, you could if you feel uncomfortable leave it to them to decide

Hope this helps

Maybe you could post up a couple of your shots for us to view or a link to them, that will give people an idea as to what to charge based on your skills. ;)

personally why not look at print costs then maybe add on 50% or even 100% for small ones, sites such as Photobox.co.uk charge you 10p per 6"x4, so charging 20p would net you 100% markup and your friend would still consider this a bargain :)

I charge £4.99 per 6"x4" but this is all agreed prior to the shoot and has some free ones, for my second cousins christening coming up im not charging though
